SPWLA Formation Testing SIG Webinar Series 2021

SPWLA Formation Testing SIG Webinar Series 2021

Panel Discussion

Tuesday, October 19th
8:30am – 9:30am US Central Time

Topic: What Operators want from Service Companies and Universities to Develop/Improve?

During this session, a panel of experts will share their perspectives on what they are looking on formation testing and sampling to better solve business problems. This is a great opportunity for universities and service companies looking to align their resources allocation to address final user needs.

Moderator: Hani Elshahawi

Hani Elshahawi is founder and managing director of NoviDigiTech LLC which partners with innovators, academics, startups, entrepreneurs, investors, and customers to create impact and drive growth through integration, collaboration, digitalization, and education. He previously spent 18 years at Shell as digitalization lead for Deepwater technologies, GameChanger, technology advisor and capabilities manager, and leader of Shell’s Fluid Evaluation and Sampling Technologies center of excellence. Prior to Shell, Hani spent 15 years with Schlumberger in various positions across Africa, Asia, North America, and globally spanning operations, marketing, consulting, and technology development. Hani has received multiple energy industry awards and has authored over 150 technical publications and several patents. He was the 2009-2010 President of the SPWLA and a distinguished lecturer for both societies.

Panelist: Samantha Lares (Chevron), Shyamalan Ramaswami  (Shell), Eric Soza (BP), and John Bergeron (BP).

Samantha Lares is a CTC Reservoir Management Performance Advisor, based in Houston TX and assumed the position on June 16, 2021. She joined Chevron in 2004 as a Boscan Field Production Engineer intern in Maracaibo, Venezuela and joined the LL-652 Reservoir Management Department later that year. In 2007, Samantha joined Oxy in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a brief period before returning to Chevron as a Reservoir Engineers in the Asset Development Team in Argentina. In 2010 she relocated to Aberdeen, UK where she held numerous Reservoir Engineering roles within the Unconventional Exploration, Captain Field and Clair Teams. In 2014 she relocated to Houston as Deepwater GOM Appraisal Engineer, later taking on the position of Ballymore Sr. Reservoir Engineer in 2018. A native of Venezuela, Samantha graduated from La Universidad del Zulia, Venezuela in 2004 with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. She also earned a Masters in Business Administration from The Robert Gordon University, UK in 2013. During her 7 years in Deepwater GoM, she was responsible for overseeing the formation testing planning and execution of over 8 E&A wells and help facilitated the GOM Formation Testing Workshop in Houston and Covington.

Shyam Ramaswami is the Global Manager for the Fluid Evaluation and Sampling Technologies (FEAST) team in Shell. The FEAST team is the custodian of Shell’s Global Wireline Formation Testing, Welltest Sampling and Fluid Sampling & Analysis capabilities and have been at the forefront of the application of Wireline Formation Testing capabilities, and direction of how WFT data is used within Shell, incorporating these into project workflows on how fluid and dynamic reservoir testing observations impact end to end project decisions. Shyam has spent 20 years in the industry, initially with a major service provider, and for the past 12 years with Shell. Having worked in a variety of projects globally for Shell at various stages, he has deep knowledge and experience in data acquisition in Exploration and Appraisal wells, particularly in relation to their importance to Front End Loading of Project Lifecycle decisions. He is an accomplished author within the industry, particularly on advanced applications of Wireline Formation Testing.

Eric Soza is the petrophysics discipline lead for the Gulf of Mexico and Western Hemisphere Global Subsurface Solutions team for BP Exploration and Production in Houston. His responsibilities include technical assurance, reservoir description, data acquisition planning and execution. He has interests in reservoir modeling, multi-discipline integration, formation testing operations and downhole fluid analysis. Prior to joining BP, Eric worked in both operations and sales for Schlumberger wireline in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

John Bergeron is currently the Operations Petrophysics Lead for BP where he oversees data acquisition planning, execution, and supplier integration across BP’s portfolio. Prior to this position, John worked as a petrophysicist in BP GoM supporting both reservoir description and new well delivery. Prior to BP, John worked for Schlumberger wireline, mostly as a field and technical support engineer focused on formation testing. He holds a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Michigan Tech University.
